Gemma Luna performs, teaches and creates.
Her innate musicality expresses itself in many ways! As a singer songwriter, her self taught musicianship leans warmly into a jazzy sensibility, her lyricism is rich with a poet's discerning use of metaphor and her content ranges from political to social to deeply personal. A one woman acappella orchestra with a loop station, she beat boxes and layers vocal harmonies, using both written and free-styled lyrics with a fluid style that embraces R&B styling, middle eastern melisma, a hip hop edge and just plain angelic sweetness. She is a vocalist and dancer with Juno nominated producer/composer Adham Shaikh and his Outworld Orkestra, and is featured on two of his albums. With music in various incarnations, from singer songwriter, to jazz standards, loop station free style, singer in many different bands over the years, Gemma Luna and her heavenly voice have enjoyed many stages at festivals and events throughout BC.
A lifetime lover of movement, Gemma Luna has training in ballet, modern dance, contact improv and tai chi. In the last 10 years all of her movement study has merged into a love affair with belly dance and she is mesmerizingly graceful dancer and gifted movement facilitator.
